On the occasion of the International Women’s Day . 08 March, Women’s Seminar was held on 06 March in Sarajevo as a part of FIET/UNI Project activities in BIH as well as part of continual activities of Women’s Network BIH and Women’s Section of CTUBIH.

“STOP trafficking in women” is a slogan this seminar has adopted. Alex Ruedig, FIET/UNI Project Director took active part in this seminar informing participants on international engagement and activities.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of 19 countries that American administration accused for just few actions in fighting against trafficking. This transnational billion worth business has taking up the priority in global criminal world, even priori to a drug smuggling.

 

Between 700 000 to 2 million people are being sold annually bringing a profit of 7 billion US dollars.In this respect Bosnia and Herzegovina is mentioned as a country of destination, country of transit as well as country of causes that tells enough of the need to face this problem and to speak about it.

 

The seminar aimed on raising the attitude and awareness among the participants to individual approach to the problem of trafficking in women in BIH. First step in this have to be attacking prejudices on trafficking’s victims who are victims indeed instead of being the guilty ones. The role of women’s associations is to appeal for preventive actions and monitoring as a basic condition for future actions.

 

Representatives from Finansforbundet, Sweden, Ulla Cederstrom and Magnus Gussler also took active part in the seminar informing participants about the long tradition of women’s association in Sweden as well as about the role of women’s association in the finance trade union movement in this country.

 

Jadranka Mikić, professional trainer and constant cooperative of FIET/UNI Project office Sarajevo, addressed the issue on trafficking in BIH from the sociological perspective.
As one of the most important conclusions of the seminar a consequent follow-up has been decided. The issue will be taken in The Gender Training package which will be provided to women in BIH. Regional initiatives will be organized by FIET/UNI Project office in Sarajevo in cooperation with important international institutions and NGOs.
